David Grove
Text Work

David Grove is an electroacoustic artist working with digital and analog electronic instruments for performance, installation and recorded outputs. He is primarily involved with the confluences of sound sources and the varying influences that perpetually multiple and change these points in time and space.

He is interested in exploring and utilizing economic means of introducing variation into his works. Specifically, he looks to the characteristics and imperfections of sound synthesizers to provide changing relationships and unforeseen surprises. This process is also a means to reveal electronic instruments for what they are: products of the natural world.

By selecting and combining sound elements that are allowed to interact on their own, the works result in aspects of determination and indetermination. This partial withdrawal of human intention is an attempt to build a triangular relationship between the artist, the work and the listener.

Other than sound based works, David has also produced a number of light installations using prefabricated elements and arranged composition of shifting light intensity and colour. Spectral Arrangement 1 is one of these pieces and has been acquired by VIVO (Vancouver) for their collection.

David has shown and performed at numerous venues in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, and Vienna.
